Assistant Professor, International Relations and Global Security (University of Toronto–St. George)

Here's an attractive recent job posting in the Department of History at the University of Toronto's St. George campus (in downtown Toronto)–in international relations, but broadly conceived in a way that should be of interest to international and global historians:

The Department of History at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in International Relations: Modern Global Security, at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2016.

As the field of International Relations History continues to evolve, readings of "security" have become increasingly complex. We welcome applications from those whose research may explore recent global processes and relations in innovative ways. Specialization may, therefore, focus on questions of war and peace, diplomacy, espionage, or international organization, but may also concentrate on economic globalization, 'terrorism', human rights, surveillance, food and water security issues, and beyond.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in History or a related field in hand by July 1, 2016 or shortly thereafter; an established or emerging record of scholarly accomplishment, as evidenced by refereed publications, conference presentations, and grants and awards; and evidence of excellence in teaching with strong teaching evaluations. Qualifications include the ability to teach a range of undergraduate courses in History, from introductory surveys to more specialized, upper-level lecture and seminar courses. Graduate teaching will include seminars as well as supervision of MA and PhD students. Candidates should have a capacity to work in languages other than English.

If this sounds interesting, then applications may be submitted via this link no later than September 30, 2015. "The committee will begin to review applications during the first week of October 2015," notes the advertisement, "and the position will remain open until filled."
