invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor starting in Fall 2016. Qualified applicants should be prepared to offer courses in modern and contemporary world history. Preference will be given to candidates with areas of expertise in Latin America and the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, East Asia, and/or the Middle East. The appointment begins September 1, 2016.
Teaching responsibilities include introductory courses appropriate to the Historical and Global Diversity requirements, as well as upper-level electives for the History Minor. We particularly encourage applications from those who can contribute to curricula in the arts and communication and/or one or more of Emerson's interdisciplinary minors (for example, Global and Postcolonial Studies, Digital Media and Culture, and others (click here to view minors).
The Institute is a vibrant and engaged community of disciplinary-based and interdisciplinary scholars with over 60 full and part time faculty members. It is the academic unit responsible for the core curriculum that serves all of Emerson's majors. The Institute hosts a variety of Liberal Arts Minors along with the First Year Seminar Program, the Honors Program, and the Individually Designed Interdisciplinary Program. It seeks to facilitate cross-fertilization between liberal studies and Emerson's professional programs.
Required qualifications include: a Ph.D. in History or in non-western regional studies with a demonstrated primary field in history at the time of appointment. Evidence of teaching excellence and commitment to undergraduate teaching is essential, as is demonstrated ability to sustain an active research program.
