CFP Announcement: Journal of Global History development editing workshop

As part of efforts to make the field of global history more truly ‘global’, the Journal of Global History is hosting an online development workshop to help prospective authors through the submission process.

The workshop is open to scholars working in the field of global history:

  • for whom English is not a first language;
  • who study or work at universities outside of North America and Western Europe at institutions where editing support is not readily available;
  • whose initial submissions and evidence base indicate a clear fit with JGH’s mission statement.

Accepted applicants will submit a full manuscript draft, which will go to our development editing team at Les Plumes Rouges for a first round of review and recommendations. An edited draft will then be read by one of the journal’s editors and a member of the JGH editorial board, who also will provide mentorship during the submission process. At the next stage, articles will either go through JGH’s normal peer review channels or undergo another round of edits with Les Plumes Rouges.

Note: This process will be most suitable for those who have completed the research for their prospective article and are now looking towards publication. Acceptance into the workshop does not guarantee publication with the Journal of Global History.

Interested applicants should submit a CV and draft introduction of no more than 2,000 words (including footnotes). The introduction should make clear:

  • Your focus (what/when/where) and argument (why/so what?);
  • The theoretical/conceptual/methodological stakes of your study;
  • How your work engages with existing historiography;
  • Your sources of evidence;
  • How your study engages with and contributes to the field of global history.

Completed applications and all queries should be sent to jgh@tufts.edu by 1 March.

Applicants should be prepared to submit a full, polished article draft (max. 12,500 words including notes) by 1 June.
