Assistant Professor of Modern World History (Missouri Southern State University)

For those on the market–and ideally, with a background in the history of Asia, the Middle East, or decolonization–here's a recent call for applications for a position at Missouri Southern State University (located in Joplin, Missouri) in modern world history:

Missouri Southern State University:  The Department of Social Science at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History beginning August 2017. We are seeking a broadly trained historian of Modern World History (non-US; non-Latin America). Desired areas of specialization include Asia, the Middle East, or imperialism/decolonization. The successful candidate will be able to teach the introductory courses, Modern Global History and Asian Civilizations, as well as advanced courses in his or her area of specialization. Because all students at MSSU are required to take a survey course in United States history, a candidate with the willingness to teach either U.S. History, 1492-1877 or U.S. History, 1877 to the present (either in a traditional or online format) is strongly preferred. The position requires a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level; teaching load is four courses per semester. A Ph.D. is preferred, but ABDs will be considered.

Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) is a four year liberal arts institution serving nearly 6,000 students. Expanding graduate and undergraduate programs provide faculty with rich opportunities for service and scholarship. Internationally-focused semesters and enriching cultural events in theater, art, music and film create an engaging learning environment for students and citizens of the region. Joplin is a resilient and vibrant city with a population of over 50,000 serving a metropolitan statistical area of 208,000. There is quick and easy access to Northwest Arkansas, Kansas City, and Tulsa, as well as numerous outdoor activities and attractions throughout the Ozarks.

Applicants should submit a detailed letter of application, curriculum vitae (with the names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers of three references), and copies of undergraduate and graduates transcripts. (Official transcripts are required 45 days after contract is issued.). Submit documents to FacultyVitae@mssu.edu; include: "History—Assistant Professor" in the subject line.  All applications must be received no later than January 9, 2017. Employment will require a background check.
